Holey dessert
Yesterday my July holidays finally began - a brief respite from the past two months of exams and subsequent supplementary exams - so needless to say, that started off with a nap. Simon came up from Wollongong for a catch up with a few of us Sydney-siders so that could only mean wandering around the city getting up to an assortment of random things for kicks.
So about the nap, we thought it would be a brilliant idea to watch 'The BFG' for the sake of childhood nostalgia. But books will be books, and movies will be movies. Spielberg positively flopped at translating Roald Dahl's literary magic onto the big screen. The plot development was slow and characters were so lack-lustre against the backdrop of beautiful CGIs. So Annie and I napped.
The rest of the afternoon was excellent fun. We went to White Taro Cafe for lunch (more on that later), and visited Shortstop in Barangaroo for doughnuts.
So here's the verdict (An average of five people's taste buds for reliable results. Too nerdy?)
Triple Matcha ($5.00)
So much yes. It was a nice kind of damp and not oily. The matcha taste was as overpowering as the name suggested and we enjoyed that.
Earl Grey and Rose ($4.50)
We could taste more earl grey than rose but enjoyed that balance. We thought this one was a bit on the dry side.
Cinamon, Cardamom & Sugar Raised ($4.00)
This one had a classic flavour - like the ones at doughnut king - but generously sized. But we thought it was way too sweet.
For takeaway, I brought home the Australian Honey and Seasalt, and the Maple Walnut & Brown Butter Raised, as well as another Earl Grey and Rose for my family. They seemed to enjoy them even though doughnuts aren't normally my parents' thing. Dad will appreciate anything with nuts or fruit.
