See shells by the seashore

Last week, twelve of us from school went to the Royal National Park to hike the Bundeena to Otford coastal trail and covered a good portion of the 26km. Notable sights included Marley Head, the famous Wedding Cake Rock, and a little freshwater stream which turned into a waterfall before merging with the sea.

It was a pretty haphazard gathering of old classmates: some acquaintances, and others who are still my very best friends. Some are at the same university, others are studying interstate, and a few totally vanished from my life since we graduated three years ago. With the huffing and puffing and living the moment we didn't get to fully catch up with each other's happenings but it was a joy to hang out again, joke around, and appreciate the beauty of nature.

The freshwater waterfall that we used as a shower.

The "shower" was dangerous and mossy as proven by experiment. The near slips and actual slips generated lots of good laughs but nobody was harmed in the process.

Hermit crabs at Bundeena Beach // Photo creds to Simon Banh or Jen Liu for the last snap

We got lost early in the day but found our way back on trail by the end. Still, we lost time, and because Avi and Nikkida had to get back early, we couldn't go to Wattamolla to jump off the cliff overseeing a lagoon. Saving it for another time, we decided to just relax with Icy Poles from IGA and swim at Bundeena Beach.

The guys discovered that the seashells we felt walking over us actually were. Picking them up and overturning then, we discovered young hermit crabs that promptly shied back into their vibrant homes. After a good bout of hermit crab racing and getting a stranger to name one after Simon Chau, we headed back on our long drive home.
