Of greedy gulls and hungry humans

Today I visited the Sydney Fish Markets with a group of friends with the main intention to, as one phrased it, "eat so much fish that we poop oil." I haven't been to the fish markets since I was a toddler so it's safe to say this is the first time that I remember going. Located near the heart of the CBD, it's only a quick tram ride away from Central station. There's also parking spaces available for drivers.

Salmon, oysters, battered and deep fried soft-shelled crabs

Between four girls and four guys our table devoured 1.5kg of salmon, a lot of oysters and a few crabs. The others split off from us and purchased a few platters to share at a nearby park. All our purchases were fantastically fresh. The soft shell crabs were to die for and for something that's been in the deep-fryer, it had a prominent solid flavour. The salmon was standard and the oysters (which I didn't eat) were delicious according to my friends. While it's expensive and a bit of a tourist trap, we would definitely be going back there again. Something we'd change next visit would be to buy less of each and more variety. Us girls were so full from the salmon that we couldn't try more. The guys persevered to try swordfish amongst other delicacies.

If you just can't get enough they even package the seafood into nice bags with ice for anyone planning on a takeaway round two.

There were also a hand-full of non-seafood stores around such as the deli and the dessert shop that sold chocolate coated fruit. A sweet treat to nicely tie up a fishy day is in order right?
